This post is part of the ongoing Woman Crush Wednesday series. I strongly believe that real women support other women, which is why each Wednesday I will be doing a profile on an inspiring female travel blogger who I think deserves a shout out for their amazing content. If you can think of any amazing ladies who fit this bill please get in touch with your suggestion.
Liz started her blog all the way back in 2010 when she moved to Spain to teach English. Little did she know that, what would start off as a way for her to document her adventures and keep family in the loop back home, would become one of the leading travel blogs out there! And I don’t just mean female travel blogs. I mean travel blogs, period.
In 2013, after deciding enough was enough at her 9-5, she quit her job to travel the world and become a full-time travel blogger! It is seriously an amazing read and one I highly recommend that you check it out in full here. She is now based in Wanaka, New Zealand, and still travelling the world with her blog. She also co-founded The Travel Bootcamp, which aims to help other aspiring travel bloggers get paid to travel the world!
Why is she an inspiration to me?
Back in 2013 when I was looking for inspiration for my gap year, I stumbled across her blog. The combination of her no-nonsense, tell it like it is style of writing and her passion for the places she had visited had me instantly hooked. If I wanted to find tips and tricks for a certain destination, she had a post for that. If I felt like just kicking back and becoming immersed in one of her incredible travel tales, guess what? She’s got a post for that too.
Why she should be an inspiration to you:
She is refreshingly real and genuine in a world that is becoming increasingly fake, and I think that’s why she has done so well where others have failed in this industry. She is first and foremost about the places she visits and the people she meets, and the result is engaging posts that will have you down the rabbit hole and checking out her blogs hours later. You can rest assured that any opinions she has (and she definitely has them) are her own and not sponsored content trying to land a sale. If she does recommend something it’s because she personally believes in it as a product.
Three amazing posts you should check out:
- The Solo Female Traveler’s Manifesto – this one is an oldie but a goodie, having been shared an incredible 6500+ times! In this post she lays out her ten commandments for being a good solo female traveller, and as this post was back from 2013, it’s crazy to look at it now and see how she’s made that become a reality!
- Why Experience Still Matters – in the age of Instagram and selfies, the line between reality and well-crafted photo ops is becoming increasingly blurred. In what was and still is one of my favourite posts on the internet, Liz calls out the fakeness of social media and how #liveauthentic has become anything but. She makes a powerful argument for the value of experience and why she’d pick crappy photos with amazing stories over the reverse any day of the week.
- All the mean, nasty and godawful hateful things people say to me online – for reasons that escape me, Liz seems to be subject to some truly awful trolling. However she is not one take this to heart and she can give back as good as she gets. If you enjoy seeing strong women shut down sad troll man-babies on the internet, then I can assure you that you’ll enjoy this. Plus she posts these most years, so there is plenty more where that came from!
